The Philippines Madrigal Singers -- “ Indonesia Goodwill Concert Tour 2010”

Highlighting the improvement of Indonesia’s choir and to strengthen the perceived quality and appreciation to choirs as art and culture ambassador, Festival Paduan Suara XXII ITB 2010 will be held in a more established form. This year, ITB Student Choir will also held The 1st ITB International Choir Competition where choir from all over the world compete and interact through music and culture.

In the framework of The 1st ITB International Choir Competition (ITB ICC) 2010, committee of The 1st ITB International Choir Competition invite the Philippines Madrigal Singers a.k.a. Madz who hold the distinction of being the first choir in the world to win the European Grand Prix of Choral Singing twice; first in 1997 and more recently, in August of 2007.

The influence of the Philippines Madrigal Singers on the Philippine and Asian choral scene has also been far-reaching, and today, the choir’s developed network has a membership of almost 60 choirs from all over the country. The Philippines Madrigal Singers has also maintained an active outreach and concert tour schedules. With an average of two overseas concert tours in a year, the choir has strengthen its position as the country’s most active ambassadors of goodwill and perhaps, also one of the world’s most-traveled choirs. It is expressions of dedication they were officially recognized as UNESCO Artist for Peace in July of 2009. The Philippine Madrigal Singers have thus been charged with the mission of supporting UNESCO programs on cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue, continuing to serve as examples and ambassadors as part of bringing the choral dream to full fruition.

For this Indonesia tour program, besides performing in The 1st ITB ICC 2010, the Philippines Madrigal Singers will also hold concert tour to several cities in Indonesia from July 28 to August 11, 2010 (Bandung, Jogjakarta, Surabaya, and Jakarta). Aside of the concerts, aligned with the mission in art education, especially for choirs, there also will held choral clinics by The Choirmaster, Mark Anthony A. Carpio, with the Philippines Madrigal Singers as the choir model. A wide repertoire of various styles and forms: i.e. renaissance music, classical music, international folksongs, contemporary and avant-garde music, even popular music will be performed during the tour.

Festival Paduan Suara XXII ITB is a routine program of ITB Student Choir, recognized as the biggest and most awaited national choir competition that was initiated in 1968. This event is aimed to bring harmonious culture and cultural harmony through music, as music is the common language of the world. It believe that the event will gather choirs from all over the world to come and singing together.
